Perform Statistical Calculations on Raw Data

From time to time you might have to deal with a bunch of raw numbers. This can data from your lab class, some data you obtained at work, or perhaps a survey. So the question is, "What are you supposed to do with this data?"

This page can help. If you type your data into the box below, there are several common "data analysis" tools to try on your data. Once you type in your data, click on an option at the bottom of this page.

1. How to type in your data:
  • There can be one or two numbers per line in the box below.
  • If you type one number per line, each number will be considered a separate data point.
  • If you type two numbers per line (a pair of numbers, with a space or comma in between), then each pair of will be considered an (x,y) data point.
  • Press [Enter] or [Return] at the end of each line. If you don't have any data, click here for some interesting samples you can use.

2. Type or paste your data into this box:

3. What do you want to do with your data?

Plot the data
Find the maximum and minimum data points
Find the average value of the data
Find the standard deviation of the data
Show me a histogram of the data
Plot a histogram of the data

For the histrogramming options, use bins.

4. Optional Graphing Information: Scale the plot axes automatically...

...or select your own scale:

X-axis range: Minimum: Maximum

Y-axis range: Minimum: Maximum
